If you can swing the price difference for the boom swing model, do it. Once you use it you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. The 1.8 ton size is right for residential and light commercial work.
The boom swing function works well and is precise. The rest of the machine is just okay. Controls have noticeable deadband and some of the trim pieces feel cheap. For the price it's acceptable.
Machine works but customer service was slow when I needed a replacement pin. Once running it has been reliable enough. Boom swing operates smoothly. Build quality is what you'd expect for the price.
1.8 ton class with boom swing is the most useful configuration for residential work. Big enough to do real excavating, small enough to access most properties, versatile enough for tricky angles.
Compared to renting major brand minis this feels less refined. The boom swing is the main reason to step up from the cheaper Typhon models. For the price it's an okay buy.
